The fast start
I’m finishing my master’s degree on informatics and computer engineering at FEUP and engaged in a thesis about Rails optimization.
The purpose of this thesis is to create a set of guidelines towards optimizing a Rails application and possibly a few patches for all the software involved, from the operating system to the application itself covering webservers, databases and so on.
I intend to research, benchmark, observe how some modifications impact third-party elements and finally, somewhere in April next year, be able to produce solid documentation and a set of patches for all Ruby on Rails developers and system administrators.
This blog will help me cover the state of the art on this subject. It’ll make me research on a periodical basis and maybe I’ll get some feedback from the community, pointing me to new directions and correcting me whenever I’m wrong. I’ll start with the simple things and then evolve to some more complex solutions to specific issues.
Let’s see how this goes.
